The Watchcat (or alternatively known as The Watch Cat) is the first part of the second episode of the series Heathcliff and Dingbat. This is based on Heathcliff, rather than Dingbat. It is followed by second part of the episode: Pumping Irony.
Synopsis[]
The Purple Think Burgler attempts to break into the Nutmeg's house, but Heathcliff stops him.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Grandma and Iggy watching news on TV about the purple think burgler, who is robbing houses in suburban areas. When Grandma Nutmeg and Iggy walk to bed and allow Heathcliff to be on watch, as the orange tabby is sleeping on duty, the purple think burgler goes inside of the window, and stepping on Heathcliff's tail that interrupted his slumber as he gives out a scream, the burgler then threatens to hit the cranky feline with a tennis racket, which Heathcliff uses his strength to pull the window with the burgler in it, being compressed to an accordion, as he walks away for now, Heathcliff exclaims "If he was smart, he would need to step on his tail", the burgler then attempts to go inside the chimney but unfortunately for him Heathcliff uses a match fire for warmth burning the burgler's behind to the fountain the relief his burn.
The burgler goes to his next attempt to break in climbing with a ladder with him being a disturbance to Heathcliff, the feline picks up the ladder the Purple Think Burgler is on, and drops it as the crook changes his strategy.
The Purple Think Burgler is inside the house and plans to rob from a dresser, inside has Heathcliff as the crook unnoticed as he is brought in the drawer had him, next thing he has on one of Grandma's dresses as he leaves out.
The nexts scene has the Purple Think Burgler sneaking through the pet door as he sneaks pass Heathcliff he plan to steal the piggy bank from Iggy's room which Heathcliff replaces with him and is put inside the bag, Heathcliff fights the burgler in the inside bag waking up Iggy, with Heathcliff holding bag with the burgler inside and drops out the window.
The burgler uses a fish in a hook to lure the Heathcliff in the trap inside rather small cage, giving Heathcliff in joy, and take the fish out of the hook, the orange feline then walks out the door and places to the hook to a taxi outside making the burgler flying to the taxi as the tax driver stops then the taxi broke down due to collusion and turn to a pile of rubble which Heathcliff sweeps off the road.
The last attempt, Purple Think Burgler digs underground to saw a hole to inside the house unfortunately Heathcliff was under the floor falling inside, as the burgler attempts to jump out the hole it too late as Heathcliff grabs him back inside, as Heathcliff gets back on the floor and decides to finish it by using a vacuum cleaner to inhale the man inside it, Purple Think Burgler surrenders and accept the win to Heathcliff as he now rather be inside a cell as the orange feline pushes the burgler to the location of the police station rolling through in vacuum to the hill and goes through the town, as Officer Casey gets a call of the Purple Think Burgler turning himself in and doesn't believe at first, until the Purple Think Burgler come through the door of the police station.
Grandma and Iggy tell the news to Heathcliff about the Purple Think Burgler mysteriously turning himself in the police, with the family relief about the news, as well as Heathcliff who could can get his rest as the episode ends.

- The episode is inspired and based on the April 29, 1975 comic strip.
- Officer Casey appears in a different design rather than the better known design starting with The Great Cop 'n Cat Chase.
- One of the scenes when the burgler is suck inside the vacuum cleaner. the Purple Think Burgler's scream sounds similar to Spike's scream in this series.
- The scream in the scene where Heathcliff burns burgler inside the chimney the sound was was reused in Angling Anglers
