Spike's first appearance in the Heathcliff comic strip.
(March 29, 1974)
Spike (also known as Brutus in Les Entrechats) is a bulldog owned by Muggsy Faber who is a rival to Heathcliff. And one of the main antagonists in the franchise.
Character Overview
Personality
Spike is known to be a very strong bulldog, although he is very fearful and weak at heart, which Heathcliff often laughs at. Spike acts like the top dog of the neighborhood. He bullies those weaker than him. Heathcliff however is able to stand up to as Spike stand no chance against the latter. Despite this he has shown a good side to him and he and Heathcliff have gotten along on several occasions especially when facing off common enemies such as Lefty, Knuckles, and Raul as shown in the episode The Fortune Teller as well as the cats whom the trio set up to steal from Heathcliff. He along with Hector, Wordsworth, and Mungo cheered Heathcliff and later Sonja on fighting Tammy, and helped get the letters back to the North Pole after working together against the naughty (later reformed) elf named Tuck and the two later had a friendly rival snowball fight after they enjoyed riding on Santa's sleigh. Other good sides to Spike include him inviting Heathcliff to a dog and cat fight in the episode Copa-ca-Heathcliff when he challenged Heathcliff to a fight in spite of his fear because he felt sorry for the cat and thanked him for having a good time and when he helped Sonja find Heathcliff after Heathcliff suffered amnesia. He also gets along well with Sonja. He is loyal and loving to his master Muggsy Faber. He also aided Heathcliff in saving a tree. In a pet guide segment he also tried to help a bird to it's nest. Even so, he will take advantage of Heathcliff any chance he's got and does not like being soft likely since it would hurt his reputation.
