Safari Saps is the third part of the fourth episode of the series Heathcliff and Dingbat. This is based on Dingbat, rather than Heathcliff. It is followed by the fourth part of the episode: Prized Pooch.
Synopsis[]
The Creeps take the job to recieve a rare dwarf elephant named Alfie for Mister Lagit the safari explorer.
Plot[]
In Africa, a distinguished gentleman by the name of Mister Lagit is offering a reward of ten thousand dollars for the safe return of his beloved dwarf elephant, Alfie. Although the news of this generous offer has spread, it's worth noting that the source was the notorious Grusome Gazette. With the reward confirmed, the Creeps set out on their mission to find Alfie.
To kick off their effort, Dingbat attempts to lure the little elephant with peanuts he had scavenged from Nobody. Unfortunately, the plan backfires spectacularly when the Creeps are unexpectedly trampled by a herd of full-sized elephants. As the dust settles, a much smaller elephant appears, chuckling at the flattened assemblage of the undead before wandering off nonchalantly.
Once they regain their composure, Nobody is the first to recover and immediately chastises Dingbat for trying to attract a dwarf elephant with oversized peanuts. Dingbat sheepishly admits, “I’ve got a bit of a sight problem.”
The adventure takes a turn when the Creeps finally spot Alfie sipping water from a river. Resourceful as ever, they decide to use Sparerib as a makeshift raft to approach him. However, the clever dwarf elephant quickly sees through their ruse and retaliates by splashing the undead with water. In a comical twist, the Creeps find themselves teetering perilously close to the jaws of a hungry hippopotamus, but that only slows their progress.
In a moment of ingenuity, Sparerib grabs a crank-headed reptile to pry the hippo's jaws apart, allowing the Creeps to escape its clutches. Seizing the opportunity, they rush after Alfie, who starts to dart away. In a bold move, Dingbat attempts to lasso Alfie using a snake. At first, it seems like a successful plan, until he inadvertently drags a furious black panther out from the bushes where Alfie was hiding.
The sight of the enraged feline sends Dingbat into a panic, forcing him to polymorph into a bat and flee for safety. Meanwhile, Sparerib and Nobody manage to stay unharmed as they observe the chaos. Dingbat leads his feline pursuer into a cave, where a fierce struggle ensues. After a few tense moments, the battered panther retreats, leaving Dingbat unharmed, still in bat form.
When he finally transforms back, Dingbat covers his eyes, claiming he can't bear to look. Nobody, amused yet skeptical, insists that Dingbat must have taken care of the panther. Dingbat revels in the moment of glory, but his triumph is short-lived when a massive gorilla appears, sending the Creeps scrambling for cover.
In their frantic escape from the enraged ape, the Creeps trip over a root and tumble down a hill, only to be launched into the air by a tree struck by Alfie. They crash down onto a coconut tree, getting ensnared beneath its falling nuts—Sparerib in particular is pinned down to the ground. Alfie finds the whole spectacle uproariously funny.
In a final stroke of brilliance, Dingbat manages to capture the mischievous elephant using an octopus as a lasso. With Alfie finally in their possession, Nobody proposes a peculiar solution to the elephant's antics: "Super Creep Primer Fill."
Back at Mister Lagit's manor, the safari explorer receives his elephant, but to his dismay, Alfie has grown to the size of a full-grown adult elephant. This unexpected development sends Mister Lagit into a fit of exasperation. When Nobody presses about the reward, his inquiries push the already irate gentleman to the brink, prompting the Creeps to make a hasty retreat. As Alfie's triumphant laughter as the episode ends.
