Missy Mistique is the first part of the second episode of Heathcliff and Marmaduke.

Synopsis[]

Marmaduke has fallen in love with a girl bulldog named Missy, but winning her affections proves challenging due to her jealous boyfriend, Mean, who makes it difficult for him at every turn.

Plot[]

Marmaduke is blissfully lost in a dream, envisioning a delicious bone inside his cozy doghouse when he suddenly hears Barbie calling his name for a bath. Dreading the impending scrub-down, Marmaduke cowers in his shelter. Undeterred, Barbie brings the bath to him, but in a moment of panic, Marmaduke leaps out the other side of the fence and lands squarely in the garden of their grumpy neighbor, Mr. Snyder.

Fuming, Mr. Snyder threatens to call the Marines, sending Marmaduke scrambling back to his own yard in a frenzy. In his frantic escape, he unexpectedly jumps right into the very bathtub he had been trying to avoid. Resigned to his fate, he submits to Barbie's scrubbing and bath time.

Once he’s all cleaned up, Barbie decides to take Marmaduke for a walk. During their stroll, he catches sight of a gorgeous female bulldog named Missy, who is out on a walk with her owner. Smitten by her charm, Marmaduke can't resist the urge to follow them into their backyard, eagerly hoping for the perfect opportunity to impress her.

As Marmaduke gazes dreamily at Missy, the captivating female bulldog, his heart swells with affection. Suddenly, his reverie is interrupted when he notices the tough-looking brown bulldog named Mean lurking behind him. With a menacing growl, Mean intimidates the larger Great Dane, forcing him to back off. Clearly rattled, Marmaduke retreats, while Mean chuckles at his discomfort.

Determined to win Missy’s attention, Marmaduke hatches a plan. He ties a rope around a tasty bone and sets it up as bait to lure her over. To his delight, the scheme initially works, catching Missy’s interest. But just as she approaches, Mean steps in, suspicious of the commotion, and begins investigating.

In a comical twist of fate, as Mean leans in to get a closer look, Marmaduke—caught up in the moment—accidentally kisses him, mistaking the bulldog for Missy. The shock and surprise are palpable as both dogs recoil in disgust, realizing what just happened. Mean growls with irritation, prompting Marmaduke to quickly place the bone in Mean's mouth, hoping to keep him occupied. Marmaduke then heads toward Missy, but Mean isn't distracted for long; with a loud crunch, he breaks the bone and tumbles over, landing on himself.

Desperate to impress Missy, Marmaduke tries to show off his masculinity, flexing in an effort to catch her eye. However, she remains unimpressed, watching with mild curiosity. Just then, Mean pulls out a hose and turns on the sprinkler, aiming the water directly at Marmaduke. The sudden blast fills Marmaduke’s mouth, causing him to bloat humorously. Taking advantage of the situation, Mean shoves Marmaduke away, sending him rolling down a small hill until he crashes into a screen, spitting all the water out in a comical display.

Marmaduke sat inside his house, his heart heavy with sorrow as he lamented his inability to win Missy’s heart. Suddenly, he heard a frantic splash—Missy was struggling in the pool, drowning. Mean, the bulldog, stood on the sidelines, paralyzed by his fear of water. Unable to help, Mean turned and ran away, leaving Marmaduke with an opportunity he couldn’t ignore.

Fueled by a surge of determination, Marmaduke leaped into action. He dove into the pool and, with a powerful stroke, reached Missy just in time, pulling her to safety. As she gasped for breath, she looked up at him with gratitude in her eyes, and in a moment of sheer relief, she rewarded him with a sweet kiss.

However, after the kiss, Missy's excitement grew, and she eagerly invited Marmaduke to see her new puppies in the doghouse. This unexpected turn left Marmaduke speechless and overwhelmed. The thought of commitment made him hesitate, and he instinctively fled the scene, his heart racing as he pondered the implications of their budding relationship.
