Kitty a la Carte is the first part of the elevnth episode of the series Heathcliff and Dingbat. This is based on Heathcliff, rather than Dingbat. It is followed by second part of the episode Mystery Loves Company.

Synopsis[]

Heathcliff sets out to impress his feline girlfriend, Jodi, by procuring a special fish from an upscale restaurant, while Spike is tasked with guarding the fish from mischievous alley cats.

Plot[]

Heathcliff arrives at Wealthy Tower to visit Jodi, who is waiting for her owners to leave for dinner at "Le Salmon Salon." As Jodi indulges in chocolates and hears familiar sounds, she looks out the window to see Heathcliff, who brings her joy with a can of tuna, a bowl of milk, and his comical dance moves. However, Jodi considers those treats too "bourgeois" for her refined taste and suggests that he impress her by acquiring fish from the prestigious restaurant.

Determined, Heathcliff heads to "Le Salmon Salon." Inside the restaurant’s kitchen, Spike is on guard duty, assigned by the French chef to prevent alley cats from stealing the fish. When Spike spots Heathcliff attempting to make off with a fish, he rushes after him. However, the chef interrupts Spike, warning him about accumulating demerits; too many will land him in the dog pound. As the chef realizes that his fish is missing, he instructs Spike to catch the thief.

Heathcliff manages to evade Spike and hops into a taxi. In a comical twist, Spike crashes into the taxi door as it opens, resulting in more chaos. Heathcliff narrowly escapes and returns to the penthouse with the fish for Jodi. However, she turns her nose up at the "rare" fish and asks him to take it back, understanding his disappointment as he leaves her room.

Outside, with a clever plan, Heathcliff uses a fishing hook to retrieve one of the prized fish from the restaurant. Spike, preoccupied with his demerits, inadvertently gets the fish yanked onto his head. Despite his strength, he is no match for Heathcliff’s angling skills. Heathcliff reels the fish in, sending Spike soaring through the air and crashing back into the kitchen, creating a mess that earns him more demerit points.

Desperate to redeem himself, Spike chases Heathcliff through the restaurant, but he misses him as Heathcliff cleverly hides under a table. Collision with the chef leaves Spike even more frustrated, knowing he has squandered his last chance to catch Heathcliff.

Back at Wealthy Towers, Jodi's owners return disappointed from their dinner plans, ultimately deciding to seek out another fancy restaurant. Meanwhile, Heathcliff, fatigued from his adventures, discovers a note at his door from Jodi: “Dear Heathcliff, decided to eat out, Jodi.” The absence of any affectionate closing disheartens him, but he quickly cheers up as he enjoys his fish dinner. With a wink to the viewers, he quips, “I might’ve lost the girl, but I have the fish. After all, a man doesn’t live by love alone,” before giggling as the episode closes.
