Carnival Capers is the second part of the second episode of the first season of Heathcliff & the Catillac Cats. This is based on the Catillac Cats, rather than Heathcliff. It is followed by first part of the next episode: Mad Dog Catcher.

Synopsis[]

Riff Raff takes Cleo on a date to the carnival after hours... But their fun is thwarted by a dog named Bruno, a weasel named Geldorf and the carnie.

Plot[]

As the carnival lights twinkle brightly, Riff-Raff and his gang make their way to the entrance, only to be halted by a stern carnie who informs them that cats are not allowed. Undeterred, Riff-Raff brushes past him, but is quickly kicked out of the amusement park. The carnie taunts the other Catillac Cats, suggesting they also want a "free ride" out. Hector and Wordsworth retreat but Mungo, oblivious, enthusiastically accepts the offer, only to be pulled back by his pals. The carnie and his mischievous pet weasel, Geldorf, share a laugh at their expense.

While the gang tries to regroup, Riff-Raff lands on a discarded mattress, becoming tangled in its coils. As he wriggles free, he hatches a plan to return after the carnival closes, and this time, he wants Cleo to join them.

Once the carnival shuts down for the night, the carnie secures the gates, leaving Bruno, a tough bulldog, on guard. Meanwhile, Riff-Raff and the gang strategize near a music store where Cleo lives. Riff-Raff balances on a wooden plank, instructing Hector, Wordsworth, and Mungo to jump on it to launch him inside. After a comical struggle, Wordsworth accidentally tilts the platform perfectly, propelling Riff-Raff through the window and into Cleo's apartment.

Inside, Riff-Raff playfully gives a wolf-whistle to Cleo, who flaunts her beauty. However, Bush, the store's caretaker, stirs awake and, due to poor eyesight, clumsily attempts to confront Riff-Raff, not realizing who he is. Riff-Raff manages to distract Bush by tapping his belly with drumsticks, causing chaos that allows him to whisk Cleo away to the carnival.

Back at the carnival, Bruno patrols the premises for intruders as Riff-Raff and the gang sneak in. While trying to navigate a wire fence, Mungo struggles comically. Once they gain entry, Cleo is drawn to a crystal ball and wonders about her future. Riff-Raff romanticizes possibilities with her, but their moment is interrupted by Bruno, who spots them. Riff-Raff tries to calm the bulldog while the others look for an escape route.

In a thrilling chase, Riff-Raff cleverly tricks Bruno into thinking he ran through a door, causing the bulldog to tumble into a dunk tank. Seizing the opportunity, Riff-Raff hands Cleo a ball to hit the target. With encouragement from Wordsworth, Cleo throws the ball, successfully dunking Bruno into cold water, much to their amusement.

As they explore the carnival further, Mungo spots plush dolls in the prize corner and insists on winning one for Cleo. Riff-Raff, channeling his inner game show host, pretends to run the balloon-popping booth, impressing Cleo. However, their fun is interrupted when Geldorf, the weasel, realizes the Catillac Cats are present and rushes to inform the carnie.

While Riff-Raff showcases his skills, hitting balloons and winning prizes, the carnie discovers Bruno frozen in ice and is shocked. He demands to know who did this, and Bruno, now free of ice, points accusingly at Riff-Raff and the gang. Riff-Raff quickly takes action, urging Cleo and Mungo to hide as he distracts Bruno and the carnie.

Riff-Raff escapes into a maze of mirrors, where he amusingly contemplates his reflections, realizing that he might need to hit the gym. The carnie closes in, but Riff-Raff outsmarts him, continuing to evade capture. Meanwhile, he learns from Geldorf that his friends have been caught.

Determined to rescue them, Riff-Raff navigates through a haunted mansion filled with animatronics and creepy decor. He faces off against a knight hologram and cleverly manages to escape the mansion only to stumble into a showdown with the carnie, Bruno, and Geldorf. Using his agility, Riff-Raff manages to trap them in a ferris wheel, ensuring they can't come after him.

Hearing the gang from inside a ride, Riff-Raff finds Hector, Wordsworth, and Mungo locked in, with Cleo perched atop another ride. Riff-Raff climbs up to rescue her, and as the two swing down, they land safely on a swan from the "Tunnel of Love." The others follow, and Mungo grins, remarking on how romantic it is. Riff-Raff agrees, sharing a sweet moment with Cleo as they float on the ride, their bond growing deeper amidst the carnival chaos.
